How to Extract Text from PDF

  1. Upload a PDF file using the dropzone or file picker.
  2. Optionally set a page range (e.g. 1-5) or leave as all.
  3. Click Extract Text to process the pages.
  4. Copy the text to clipboard or download it as a .txt file.

Note: Scanned PDFs (image-only) contain no selectable text and will produce empty output. Use an OCR tool for those.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No — PDF.js runs entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.

Why is the extracted text empty?

Scanned PDFs store pages as images with no embedded text. Only PDFs with embedded text layers can be extracted.

Does it support password-protected PDFs?

Not currently. Remove the password first using a local tool, then upload here.

What is the maximum file size?

There is no server-side limit. Very large files (100 MB+) may be slow depending on your device.
